WW Ocean Transports Thai Gantry Crane

Project cargo carrier Wallenius Wilhelmen Ocean has shipped an out-of-gauge gantry crane from Australia to Thailand.

The breakbulk project involved loading the 230-tonne crane beams using specially tailored multipurpose bogies. A team from WW Ocean partnered with Port Air Logistics to ship the 1,200-cubic-meter breakbulk cargo to Singapore and on to Thailand.

“The size of the crane made things logistically difficult – the out-of-gauge pieces needed to be shipped as one parcel. There were other requirements too – underdeck stow was a prerequisite, as were regular fixed sailings out of Melbourne,” a spokesperson for WW Ocean said.

A subsidiary of Wallenius Wilhelmen group, WW Ocean provides global ocean cargo services via a fleet of more than 50 roll-on, roll-off vessels.
