Niels Walch

Director of Project Logistics, Southeast Asia & Pacific Rhenus Group

Niels-Hendrik Walch leads Rhenus’ Project Logistics business across Southeast Asia and Oceania from Bangkok. He combines regional commercial leadership with operational experience in heavy lift, breakbulk and multimodal transport for power, renewable energy and industrial projects.

His logistics career began with Kuehne+Nagel in Germany in 2006. Since joining Rhenus in 2018, his roles have included project management in Germany and country leadership in Indonesia, where he served as President Director of Project Logistics. His international experience also includes freight operations in New Zealand.

His focus is on making complex projects executable: aligning commercial commitments, transport feasibility and local delivery capabilities early in the project lifecycle. Working across customers, engineering contractors, equipment manufacturers and country teams, he advocates earlier logistics involvement to protect project budgets and schedules.

Event Agenda Sessions

Fleet readiness: Can capacity keep pace with Asia’s project pipeline?

If fleet capacity doubled tomorrow, would the industry’s delivery challenges disappear?

Asia's project pipeline is creating demand for specialist multipurpose and heavy-lift shipping. But even when vessel capacity exists, project delivery can be constrained by port capability, inland infrastructure, equipment availability, permitting requirements and route disruption.

This session will examine what true fleet readiness means in today's market by exploring the factors beyond vessel supply that increasingly determine project success. The discussion will consider how carriers, ports, EPCs and logistics providers are responding to changing cargo flows, growing operational complexity and new pressures on project delivery.
