At the same time, the next wave of project demand – from semiconductor fabrication plants and data center expansion to complex energy infrastructure – is creating new opportunities for AI to transform planning, execution and risk management in high-growth sectors.

Asia’s breakbulk and project cargo fleet is under unprecedented pressure, shaped by route disruptions, state-backed competition, ageing MPV tonnage and a surge in energy-transition demand.

This session brings carriers, analysts and shipper voices together to confront the sector’s key questions surrounding the now and next of fleet capacity in Asia, providing actionable insights into near-term fleet risks and structural constraints, the impact of regulatory, financing and geopolitical shifts and realistic pathways for fleet modernization and deployment strategy. 

Asia’s offshore wind sector is moving from ambition to execution, with projects scaling up rapidly across both established and emerging markets in the region. This growth is driving unprecedented demand for heavy-lift vessels, marshalling ports, fabrication yards and complex project logistics. But as development accelerates, a quieter question is emerging: what happens when today’s turbines, foundations and cables reach the end of their operational life? 

Moderated by Breakbulk Magazine, this session connects offshore wind build-out with the realities of future removal. Drawing on lessons from Europe’s more mature wind markets, the panel explores how early design choices, port investment, vessel strategy and regulatory planning will shape Asia’s ability to manage decommissioning safely, efficiently and sustainably. 

Reflecting the diversity of Asia’s offshore wind landscape, the discussion will consider how different markets across the region are approaching both deployment and decommissioning. The focus remains on practical implications for project cargo operators today – and how lifecycle thinking can reduce risk, cost and disruption tomorrow. 

Green and sustainability-linked financing is rapidly reshaping how energy and infrastructure projects are funded in Asia.  

This session demystifies green bonds, ESG-linked lending and Development Finance Institution (DFI)- supported capital structures, explaining how they influence procurement, vessel selection, sustainability reporting and contractor qualification.  

Drawing on examples from organizations such as ADB, AIIB, JICA and Singapore’s green bond ecosystem, this session offers operators and EPCs a practical understanding of what financiers require and how logistics providers can position themselves to compete for projects backed by climate-aligned capital.

Floating data centers are emerging as a new frontier in digital infrastructure across Asia. In Yokohama, a consortium led by NYK Group, NTT Facilities, Eurus Energy and MUFG is developing a floating data center scheduled to enter operation in 2026, while parallel developments in China and Singapore signal growing regional momentum behind offshore and modular data solutions. 

Built using containerized data center modules and deployed on floating platforms, these projects combine offshore engineering, modular construction and renewable energy integration – creating highly complex logistics challenges from fabrication through installation. 

In this session, key voices from across the region unpack how these pioneering developments are being delivered, what types of project cargo are involved and what they reveal about the future of data center logistics in Asia. The discussion explores why floating and offshore concepts are gaining traction, and what they demand from ports, vessels and logistics partners. It also considers how differing national approaches could shape the next phase of growth – creating new opportunities and challenges for project owners, EPCs and shippers involved in data center development.

Inspired by Singapore’s iconic mixed dish, this interactive workshop brings together you, the diverse minds of the Breakbulk Asia community, to solve real operational problems submitted by shippers, EPCs, ports and logistics providers.  

You’ll work in facilitated breakout groups to come up with solutions to a problem statement related to a real-life project challenge, tackling issues such as regulatory delays, capacity constraints, AI adoption, multimodal coordination and fabrication-to-port bottlenecks.

China remains the most influential force shaping Asia’s breakbulk and project cargo landscape. From the China+1 shift and the rise of Southeast Asian fabrication hubs to opaque Chinese carrier strategies, cross-financed fleets and tightening geopolitical and sanctions pressures, stakeholders face an exceptionally complex mix of volatility and opportunity. Meanwhile, China continues to dominate global manufacturing for wind, solar, data center modules and heavy industry – ensuring that project cargo flows remain deeply intertwined with Chinese export pipelines.  

In this session, a leading project logistics expert joins a seasoned journalist to unpack what’s really happening behind the headlines: how Chinese carriers are changing competitive dynamics; how project owners and forwarders are reassessing risk; how Middle East disruptions affect China-origin cargo; and where emerging markets like Vietnam, Thailand and Batam are genuinely gaining ground. Asia’s project logistics sector faces a critical workforce challenge: a shrinking pool of specialized technical talent and a widening gap between traditional logistics skillsets and the digital capabilities now required. At the same time, AI and automation are rapidly reshaping workflows – from engineering support to documentation, compliance and operational planning – creating new hybrid roles that blend domain expertise with digital literacy. 

During this session, a young professional interviews senior leaders from across EPCs, ports and project logistics.
